Counseling

Behavioral Counseling
We can provide advice and professional referrals for the correction of problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling and aggression.  The Uxbridge Animal Hospital recommends Alpha Dog K9 Training who can be reached at 508-989-5859 or on the internet at http://www.alphadogk9.com/.

Dietary Counseling
We will offer guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance, performance and senior stages. Our doctors often recommend the Royal Canin Veterinary Diet™ available by prescription only or the Royal Canin Wellness Diet, which includes the Royal Canin Canine Health Nutrition™ and the Royal Canin Feline Health Nutrition™ formulas.

The Royal Canin Veterinary Diet range represents a new approach to veterinary nutrition. The diet gives priority to the pet. Prevention of associated risks, protection against oxidative stress, and the addition of nutraceuticals are considered for each diet. Vist the Royal Canin website.

We also recommend regular weigh-in visits to monitor your pet's weight which we track with our computer system and allow us to make dietary suggestions.

Dental

Our dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, tooth extractions and oral surgery.  Our staff also offers recommendations and demonstrations for dental home care.  We suggest starting your pet's dental care as early as possible.  Imagine if you didn't brush your teeth!

Digital Dental Radiology
As of February 2006, Uxbridge Animal Hospital will be following the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) Dental Guidelines.  AAHA recommends dental x-rays should be done on any tooth before and after any extraction to verify underlying damage as well as to verify complete extraction.

Diagnostic & Theraputic

Our veterinary hospital is equipped to deliver diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pet's complete health care needs. Our exam rooms are at the heart of our facility. They serve as the primary location for our therapeutic treatments and each exam room is outfitted with the latest diagnostic equipment.

Radiology
Our on-site X-ray equipment provides quality radiographs to aid in the diagnosis of many disorders.  We also utilize Dr. Susan Newall, a board certified radiologist from Ocean State Veterinary Specialists for radiology consults at the owner's request.

Pet Massage

We have recently added massage therapy to our comprehensive list of services. Our new Massage Therapy Center is headed by Emily P., senior veterinary technician at the hospital. A certified small animal message therapist, Emily graduated from the Bancroft School of Massage Therapy for Small Animals.

Massage therapy has been proven to build the bond between humans and pets. Both dogs and cats enjoy massage, even smaller animals such as hamsters and ferrets enjoy the benefits. Massage is known to help alleviate physical and psychological problems.

Massage therapy has a vast variety of benefits, including: improved circulation, removal of waste, relaxation of tense muscles, enhanced muscle mass and strength, increased lymph production, decreased blood pressure, reduced heart and respiratory rates, ease of stiff arthritic joints, expanded range of motion in joints, and diminished depression and anxiety.

The typical massage session lasts for 30-45 minutes. Frequency of massage appointments depends on the pet’s individual needs. The cost is $30 per visit.

Ultrasound Diagnostics
We are proud to offer mobile ultrasound diagnostic services by a board-certified internist. Ultrasound is a safe and painless diagnostic procedure that captures moving images of internal organs or structures for diagnostic purposes. There is no injection or radiation exposure associated with ultrasound studies.

Preventative Programs

HomeAgain® Microchip Identification System
We offer the HomeAgain Microchip Identification System for your pet. The HomeAgain system is a safe, simple, and permanent form of identification for your pet that has been designed to quickly identify lost pets and reunite them with their owners. One out of every three pets is lost during its lifetime, and only one out of every 10 lost pets is found. The HomeAgain Microchip Identification System is a proven way to successfully recover your pet if it should become lost or stolen. For more information, call us at 508-278-5869 or go to http://www.homeagainid.com/.

Wellness Plans

The hospital offers Kitten and Puppy Wellness Plans for all new additions to your family.  The Wellness Plans offer all "well" medical care for your new puppy or kitten for their first year of life at a savings to you.  They also provide an additional savings for all other services offered by the hospital.  The plans include all wellness exams, appropriate life stage vaccines, laboratory work, and spaying or neutering the juvenile pet.

Individualizes Flea/Tick Prevention Programs
We develop programs for the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas/ticks in your house, in your yard and on your pet.  These parasites pose serious health risks to your pet and your family, and need to be controlled effectively and safely.  The Uxbridge Animal Hospital recommends prescription medications to protect your pet from fleas and ticks.  Non-prescription medications have a higher risk of adverse reactions, and are often not effective.

Surgical

Our surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures, routine and emergency.

Anesthesia
We utilize the safest available anesthetics to provide that extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high risk patients. Using equipment and trained technical staff, the patient's vital signs are monitored during all anesthetic procedures.

Analgesia
We want your pet to be comfortable, while in our care, and at home.  Pain relief, or analgesia, is an important factor for surgical patients, as well as patients in emergency situations and those affected by disease or lameness.  Please be assured that analgesia will be a part of your pet's care, when appropriate.

Vaccination

Vaccines are an important part of the health of your pet.  The doctors at Uxbridge Animal Hospital will develop a vaccine schedule for your pet based on factors of age, environmental risk, and legal requirement.  Our vaccine protocols reflect the most up-to-date, credible research on the safety and efficacy of vaccines.
